What is Summer Camp for Littles?Summer Camp for Littles is our camp for children age 2-5 at 43-12 46th Street in Sunnyside. There are morning and full day camp options available from July 8th - August 16th, 2024. Camp is a magical place that gives children a chance to discover the wonders of nature, sing songs and be part of daily musical journeys that will ignite their imaginations and bring them joy and inspiration.

What is Open Studio Summer Camp? This is our camp option for children entering Kindergarten - 6th Grade at 41-20 Queens Blvd. in Sunnyside. Full day and extended day camp options available from July 8th - August 16th, 2024. This year children get the chance to have their open studio choices at our 42nd street location. Your child gets a chance to move between seven different studios including Painting, Science, Open Art, The Music and Games Cafe, Cooking, Theater and Outdoor Studios.

If I sign up my Kindergarten or 1st Grader for Open Studio Camp at 42nd Street, do they participate in all the Open Studio choices available?Yes! All studio options are available to children in the Exploration Communities but instead of moving around the building, the studios are brought into their summer classrooms at different points in their day. There will be multiple activities available for students to choose from at a given time in the classroom, building young campers communication skills and autonomy as they learn how to make choices and discover new interests on their own or with friends. Students in the Exploration Communities will travel on foot to the local park each morning, weather permitting.

What is the difference between the 46th St location and the 42nd St location program for rising Kindergarteners? The 46th street location offers both full day and part day options. We also have an on-site outdoor space that will be utilized by an outdoor educator who will be exploring science and cycles of nature with campers. Rising Kindergarteners who need to rest can do so during a rest time after lunch, but those who do not need to rest will continue with outdoor/nature programming during that time. At the 42nd street location there are full day options only. Campers that are rising Kindergarteners will be exploring process based art mediums like ceramics and painting. There is no official rest time given for rising Kindergarteners at 42nd Street but children can make the choice to rest if needed. The outdoor space we use at 42nd street is Thomas P Noonan Park - which has sprinklers and is a one block walk from the Q.
-
How are children grouped? At both locations children are grouped by age. At 46th street, the two year old children will be in their own classroom, the three year olds, four year olds and rising Kindergarteners will be in their own classrooms as well. This means that children will have different schedules based on their developmental needs. The counselors are consistent from day to day with each group of children. At the 42nd street location, children who are rising Kindergarteners and first graders are placed in Exploration Communities where there is a consistent set of counselors who work with the children each day. For campers who are in the Open Studio Program (rising 2nd graders to 6th graders) students are placed in home studio groups that are by age and also by request of what friends they would like to be with. The home studios are where children arrive each day and where they have lunch.
-
How many campers are in each group? In Camp for Littles the group sizes are: 10 children in the 2's group with 2 counselors. 15 children in the 3's group with 2 counselors, 18 children in the 4's and rising Kindergarten group with 2 counselors. In the Open Studio Program there are 10-15 students in a studio group. There are 1-2 counselors depending on the age of the campers. In the Exploration Communities for Kindergarten and 1st graders, there are 15-18 students in a group with 2 counselors.
-
Can my child be in a group with a friend who is a different age?Yes! As long as students are registered for the same camp program. Please let us know which friend they would like to be placed with.
-
What do children eat for lunch? All children in all camp programs bring their own lunch from home. The Q StudioLab is a peanut and tree nut-free facility so all food brought to the program should have NO nuts. We suggest if you would like your child to have something warm for lunch that you send a large open mouthed thermos. This is the best way to keep food warm. In addition, we ask that NO candy, gum, cookies, cakes, sodas or sweets be packed in lunches or snacks.
-
Can I change camp weeks after I register? All registrations received after May 1st are final. Any schedule additions or changes are dependent on availability after you register.
